{Product Review}: Lyonsleaf Natural Beauty Balm & Body Butter

Hi everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a product review. If you’ve heard of Lyonsleaf before – you’ll remember that they’re one of my favourite all-natural skincare brands. 😉

A huge part of it is not only because they create their own products, but because they’re the only skincare brand I know that grows all of their own ingredients!

I love clean skincare, but I love it even more when a company grows their own ingredients on their farm. It not only shows their dedication to their product, but it also shows that their ingredients come from a clean source: their own farm!

Ben and Vicky picking calendula from their farm. They grows their own ingredients to ensure it’s the best quality and that it’s not sprayed with chemicals.

My first review of them was for their Calendula Healing Balm, which you can read here (their product won a gold medal at the annual FreeFrom Skincare Awards in the ‘Problem skin’ category, beating 16 other brands!).

Recently, I also had the pleasure of trying their other products: their Lyonleaf’s Beauty Balm & Body Butter.

Remember that each product will work differently on each person depending on how well your skin responds to the ingredients, but if you’ve read my previous review, you’ll know that Lyonsleaf products are “waterless,” meaning that they don’t use water in their products.

Soothing Dry Skin Balm

Instead, Lyonsleaf products are made from 100% natural plant oils. The absence of water means that they don’t need to use emulsifiers or harsh anti-microbial preservatives (parabens, phenoxyethanol, formaldehyde, etc.) to keep bacteria from forming in the water. Their products are also void of any artificial colours and fragrances.

(Their farm is based out of the UK so you’ll notice that the prices listed on their site are in pounds, but there’s a button on their site that allows you to convert prices to USD or Euros).

I had the pleasure of trying their Beauty Balm, which won a Silver medal at the FreeFrom Skincare Awards.

This balm is a wonderful multi-purpose product; you can use it as a cleansing balm, moisturizer, and an all-purpose balm for dry skin.  It’s packed full of nourishing ingredients, like Shea Butter, Babassu Oil, Organic Macadamia Oil and Sweet Almond Oil (the latter three of which are cold-pressed – which is always the best). Clary Sage and Palmarosa essential oils are also used to naturally balance sebum production.

They also use their home grown Calendula to create this Natural Beauty Balm, which penetrates deeply into the dermis promoting collagen regeneration and speeds up eczema wound healing.

Here’s their calendula oil being infused.

The oils also help to moisturize your skin by repairing and maintaining the skin’s barrier function, which is often compromised with people who have eczema.

If you’ve heard of the “oil cleansing method” (where you use oil to cleanse your face), this balm will definitely do the trick as well. Some people find that their skin heals and gains more moisture on the oil cleansing method (as it’s based on the principle that ‘like dissolves like’). These natural plant oils will also dissolve dirty sebum, grime, make up, and even waterproof mascara.

Babassu oil is also the main oil ingredient in this balm. This ingredient is part of a sustainable harvest that comes from the rain forest of Brazil. It’s also a very hydrating oil that’s easily absorbed into the skin (plus, it’s “sun stable” and won’t oxidize on the skin). Instead, it will help boost your skin’s own sun protection capabilities because of its antioxidant content. It’s also non comedogenic (meaning that it won’t block pores).

I also found that the texture of the balm is thick, rich, and smooth. You just need to lather a small amount, and a little goes a long way.

Keep in mind that their products contain 100% active ingredients. This means that their balms contain a huge quantity of natural compounds, vitamins and antioxidants to benefit the skin, which also helps to halt the free-radical damage that causes premature aging.

All their ingredients are also in the most unprocessed state possible, with only cold-pressed, unrefined and cold blended oils used, to maximize their effects on the skin.

The better the quality of ingredients you use on your skin, the more nutrients your skin receives, and the better nourished it is.

Here is their ingredient list:

(95% organic/wild harvest): [cold pressed babassu oil]  • [raw organic shea butter] • [organic, cold pressed, macadamia nut oil] • [organic, cold pressed, jojoba oil] •[cold pressed sweet almond oil] • [natural vitamin E oil]  • [palmarosa essential oil]• [clary sage essential oil] • [benzoin resin] • [patchouli essential oil] • [organic rosemary essential oil] • [calendula flower extract] • Note: the essential oils naturally contain: citral, geraniol, benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate, farnesol, limonene, linolool.

I also had the opportunity to try the Lyonsleaf Body Butter and I love the texture of it.

I’m a big fan of their natural ingredients (as I’ve mentioned before). This particular body butter contains shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, and sweet almond oil.

I find that it’s not only an intensive moisturizer that hydrates eczema, but it also has natural fatty acids that are the same natural lipids found in the skin. This will help to repair and maintain your skin’s moisture retaining barrier, without upsetting its natural balance.

The great thing is also that the large amount of antioxidants in this body butter will help neutralize the free radicals (caused by UV light and day-to-day pollutants), which halts premature aging.

The scent of this body butter is also mainly coconut (I love coconut!) and I’ve even used it as a moisturizer once I come out of the shower after my epsom salt baths.

Other than keeping your skin moist and feeding it with highly protective antioxidants, the oils will also help with your circulation (another essential element to improving your skin’s complexion!).

You’ll find that this product will also easily melt onto the skin. If there’s any excess, you can rub it into your cuticles and it can even be used on your face as well (despite being a body butter).

Here is their ingredient list:

(95% organic): [organic raw shea butter] • [cold pressed organic coconut oil] • [organic, cold pressed, avocado oil] • [cold pressed sweet almond oil] • [natural vitamin E oil] • [benzoin resin] • [clary sage essential oil]  • [geranium essential oil]  • [calendula flower extract] note: the essential oils naturally contain: citral, geraniol, benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate, limonene, linolool

For both moisturizers, you can apply them to any rough patches you may have on your body.

If you’re reading this, I hope that it’s helped you to find a skincare and body product for eczema that will work for you.

Please note that even though this product is based out of the UK (as Lyonleaf’s farm is in Somerset, England), it might seem far to order from there if you live outside of the UK, but they actually sent me their product all the way from UK to Canada and it didn’t take too long!

Also, shipping outside of Europe was only approximately £7.26 (around $11USD), so it’s not too expensive. It may be worth giving it a try, if you’d like to try a handmade product with clean ingredients 🙂
