“With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.” – Wayne Dyer
Eczema can often be a painful journey, and it’s so easy to lose hope in the midst of it all. One thing I’ve learned is that you can either view every obstacle as a defeat, or you can see it as an opportunity to overcome the challenge, learn more, and come out better than before.
Watch the video above or keep reading to see how you can change your mindset.
I know that when you’re going through a flare up, it’s the scariest thing in the world because it’s full of uncertainty and you’re not sure if things will heal or change.
I remember having so many moments where I regretted going through this; I used to say to myself, if I didn’t go through this, I wouldn’t have scars, I wouldn’t have to spend so much money eating healthy and buying supplements to help myself get better (because it all gets so tiring).
BUT, I can also choose to view the challenges and setbacks in my life as a gift.
For instance, it hasn’t been easy to go through this, but I’ve gained so much out of it. I’ve learned sooo much about health; I’ve been able to better my health in so many ways. Yes, I may eat really healthy (and may get made fun because of it sometimes 🙂 ), but if it wasn’t for this, I wouldn’t know how to start treating my body with the best foods to make it as healthy as possible (and I wouldn’t have become a nutritionist).
I also wouldn’t be writing in this blog, teaching you about all the things I’ve learned through my setbacks.
I’ve learned so much about health, and it’s become a greater passion of mine to continue to learn more each day.
The severe flare ups I experienced have also taught me to be a stronger person (both mentally and physically). It’s also taught me to be more caring and empathetic towards other people’s problems.
And, most of all, it’s brought me closer in faith to God and made me more humble as a person.
As my naturopath said to me, “We both had eczema for a reason. And it’s so that something good can come out of it. For me, I wouldn’t be helping so many people with skin conditions nowadays. And you wouldn’t be starting your blog to help so many people suffering from it.”
It’s so true – every challenge is a gift, so learn to embrace it, and to see the positivity that comes out of it.
Count your blessings (despite the pain) and remove the defeated victim mentality that keeps bringing you down. Instead, rise up, be thankful, and know that you’ll come out of this better and stronger one day.
Whatever emotions you focus on, you will feel. When you create a new meaning and focus on the positive things, you will begin to create a new attitude in life.
Remember, sometimes your greatest strength can come out of your greatest pain.
With love,
Abby
