Hello from Stockholm, Sweden!
I shot a quick video here for you during my vacation here, and it’s something that I’ve been thinking a lot about.
Often, we tend to think about how badly eczema is affecting us, how bad are flare-ups are, and how painful and embarrassing it is to have this debilitating skin condition.
I know that many times, it can be so frustrating not knowing the cause of your eczema. Sometimes, it’s so easy to even feel jealous or sad when you see someone with beautiful skin….and, I know for myself, I was always so envious about why I couldn’t have skin like that.
Unfortunately, it’s so easy to get stuck in this cycle of negativity. And to get frustrated and angry at it all the time. Trust me, I get it.
My goal is to help you change your mindset today.
To help you do that, I want you to think about this one thing:
What are you most proud of on your eczema journey?
And I know, I know.
This might seem like the weirdest question to ask yourself, but trust me, it can help you feel better once you start to think about things you’re proud about on your eczema journey.
Too often, we get so focused on the pain of the flare up’s, the disappointment, the frustration, and most of all – the negativity of having eczema.
In turn, this affects our mood and feelings, because what you focus on is what you feel (which I talk more about this in my latest book The Power of Thoughts eBook: How Mindset Shifts Can Help Eliminate Eczema).
Since your focus has the power to change your feelings, I want to help you focus on what you’re proud of on your journey; I know that eczema often isn’t a journey to be proud of, but trust me, once you adjust your feelings, it’s possible to adjust your attitude and mindset towards it.
Focusing on what you’re proud of will also help you develop gratitude and appreciation for how far you come along in your journey.
Plus, it will also give you motivation to remind you of how strong you’ve come along in your journey. 😉
I encourage you to do this exercise to motivate you to keep going so that you won’t give up believing that you can be healed.
And, just so that you know, this is motivation for myself too. I personally find that when flare-ups happen, it’s really difficult to stay positive, but this exercise has really helped me (and from the bottom of my heart, I hope that it will help you as well).
Here is how it will work:
I want you to think of 10 – 20 positive things that you’ve been proud of on your eczema journey.
(Or, you can do what I do: I list out 5 things that I’m proud of and thankful for in my journey every morning before I wake up and every night before I go to bed. It helps me develop lots of motivation and strength to keep going).
I know that it can sound so weird, because not many positive and proud moments often come out of a journey that’s so painful and tough.
But think about this: if you see the lessons that have come out of your journey and the things that have made you proud, it will give you even more inspiration to keep fighting so that you won’t give up.
Here are a few things that I am proud of on my journey so that it can give you a few examples:
- It has made me a fighter so that I can keep fighting and not give up
- I’m so used to pain that I can tolerate a lot of pain (not just physically, but emotionally). Even my friends have noticed that I can endure a lot.
- I have learned what it means to have a loving community. If I didn’t have this, I wouldn’t know how to be vulnerable and show my weaknesses so that others could care for me and love/support me. Since I’ve lived on my own (away from my parents) for the last 10 years, it’s really changed my life to have this kind of support 🙂
So what about you? What are some things that you are proud of on your journey? What keeps you going when life gets tough and when the eczema flare-ups get bad?
Even if you feel like you don’t have beautiful skin, or you don’t know the cause of your eczema yet today to heal, take a pen and paper, and start to make your list of 10 to 20 things that you are proud of on your journey right now.
Of course, you don’t have to stop at 20, but the more you list out, the more it will create gratitude, appreciation, and motivation in your life to keep going.
Remember that you are your biggest cheerleader and you can inspire yourself to not give up. You can be proud of how far you’ve come and what you’ve been through.
And you should be proud of what you’ve been through, because most people in the world wouldn’t be able to the way that you do. And, no one knows the pain like you do.
So I want to encourage you today to think about what you’re most proud of on your journey (or, if you’re brave enough, write down some of the things you’re most proud about in the comments section below, so that we can share and and pat each other on the back in this community to inspire and motivate each other to keep going!).
Thank you for reading this!

Thank you Abby for this inspiring video and article. I would have to say one of the profound positives of my eczema is that is has brought me onto a journey of self acceptance which I was lacking when I did not have this issue. It has made me see that everyone including myself is beautiful and unique and that no matter what the external my look like, the internal always shines through.
