I decided to pick up the Ninja Blender a couple days ago after reading about it online. After handling and playing with the blender for only a couple minutes, you could tell that the blender was built for large households or athletes who consume a lot in one sitting. Everything about it screams toughness and power – hence why I call it the Ford of blenders.
Let’s take a closer look at this.
The Footprint
Side by side with a regular blender (again, I’m comparing it with the Black and Decker Cyclone), it trumps it in size. It is slightly taller and has a wider base. I can only imagine that a base this wide was for stability purposes. In addition to the size, it has rubber suction cups at the bottom that provides even more stability (that’s how powerful it is).
User Friendliness
When I first put the pieces together, I noticed the blender jar didn’t fit very smoothly into the bottom base. A couple times I was worried that I would snap a piece off due to how hard I was twisting the pieces together to fit them together. After a couple tries though, it eased up and now the pieces go together quite smoothly. If this happens to you, don’t worry, it just takes some time to break in!
Design
Like I mentioned earlier, this blender is for the hard core smoothie drinkers. If you like to throw in tons of ingredients and ice together in your mixes, then this is for you. Not only is it extremely powerful (1100W, compared to the 600W from the nutribullet), but the design is built to chop through large volumes of food.
The blades for example are extremely sharp and they will cut through anything (including your finger, so be careful). People have tested just blending pure ice and it outputs a batch of ice flakes with an excellent consistency.
The lid is extremely secure and even has an extra latch to prevent it from flying off. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear stories of the lid coming off without the latch due to the sheer force generated from within the blender.
Too big? Blend it in a cup
If you’re making a small smoothie (or regular sized…?), feel free to switch the blender out with the cup. This will save you from having to wash such a large container. I really enjoy this function as my girlfriend would probably prefer the cups, and I would prefer the regular container.
taste
Amazing! Obviously this depends also on the ingredients you put in, but so far everything has come out consistent and smooth, with no signs of wear and tear yet on the blades or machine itself. I am also able to enjoy VERY cold smoothies by throwing in lots of ice. This is great for a hot summers day, and I can trust that this device will crush everything down with ease.
Negatives
The only thing I wish they had done with the Ninja Blender was to provide closable lids. The current ones have a permanent opening, making it impossible to bring with you on the go. This is where the NutriBullet or Magic Bullet are superior. Clearly though, this device is made to stay at home due to the abundance of power it has.
Conclusion
If you like big portions, you might find the nutribullet and magic bullet to be a bit inadequate (read our NutriBullet review here). I was previously on a weight gain diet and had to consume large amounts of calories, and if I had used the NutriBullet, I would have needed 3 cups of it in order to meet my caloric needs. Not only is it big though, but it is powerful. It has the ability to crush anything, and if someone in the family wants a smaller portion, simply switch out the containers in a matter of seconds. This is why this blender is the perfect fit for large households or those who consume a lot in one sitting.
