What’s the best laundry detergent for eczema?
Meet soap nuts.
The cleanest laundry detergents you’ll ever come across.
So, what’s a soap nut?
Soap nuts aren’t really nuts (surprisingly!). In fact, they’re fruit, taken from the soapberry tree (Sapindus mukorrosi). Thanks to the outer shell of the soap nut, which contains saponin, they are known for being cleaning agents throughout the world.
Harvested in India and Nepal, soap nuts have been used for centuries in Southeast Asia and for decades in Europe. In the past decade, it has made its way to North America, where it has been recognized as a natural, potent cleaning alternative to the harsh chemicals often used in detergents and household cleaners.
What’s wrong with current synthetic laundry detergent?
Here’s a scary stat from mainstream branded laundry detergents:
“7,669 kids aged 5 and younger were exposed to single-load laundry packets from Jan. 1, 2013, to September 30, 2013” (source: American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) website)
Mainstream synthetic laundry detergents often contain carcinogens and neurotoxins, which are known to cause eczema, psoriasis, allergies, acne, cancer (melanomas), and rashes.
In fact, The Environmental Health Association of Nova Scotia (EHANS) reports that “Petroleum-based detergents cause more childhood poisonings than any other household product.”
Synthetic laundry detergents (both pod and non pod products) are also associated with allergies, contact dermatitis (eczema), skin irritations, rashes, premature skin aging, and neurotoxicity. If you’re looking for a laundry detergent for eczema, make sure it’s made with clean ingredients.

Soap Nuts are also highly economical
You can do a load of laundry for about 10 – 13 cents, or about 1/3 of the cost of using a brand name commercial detergent.
They can also be used in top loaders, front loaders and High Efficiency (HE) washing machines.
You can use either the Soap Nut “shells” (which are the skin of the Soap Berry fruit) or you can use a liquid made from Soap Nuts.
